Diet pills for weight loss?

Diet pills to lose weight

Diet Pills don’t perform weight loss on their own.

You can’t take one and just carry on eating anything you want and doing no exercise. It just doesn’t work like that.

There are two types available: herbal / over the counter and prescription diet pills that are recommended by your Doctor

Herbal / over the counter pills

This type tend not to make a massive difference to how much weight you can lose, but rather help you by providing that little bit of extra psychological motivation and taking the edge off your appetite or reducing fat or sugar take up from your diet.

If you are going to buy these types of diet pills, make sure that you read the label carefully and that you are fully aware of the listed side effects and ingredients. Never take more than the recommended dose.

Be aware that there are many that make unfounded claims too, because the herbal diet pill market place isn’t regulated, so do make sure that you research exactly what you’re buying to avoid disappointment.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

Prescription diet pills

These are far more effective, because their active ingredients are stronger and they have been thoroughly tested.

They are, however, not guaranteed to help you and like all weight loss pills, you need to take them with a proper diet and exercise plan. And, prescription pills are only offered to you if you are obese, with a minimum BMI requirement of 27. If you only need to lose a few pounds, they are not for you.

The fact that these diet pills require a prescription shows you that they are more powerful than herbal diet pills.

The Benefits

You may be one of those that needs more than just a diet plan. You may need the mental and physical support offered by diet pills, especially if you’re seriously overweight (obese) with a BMI greater than 27

Benefits With Less Risks

In order to get all the benefits and limit the risks, follow these steps:

  • Always consult a doctor before taking diet pills.
  • Only choose pills that have been approved by a competent authority.
  • Only take diet tablets that offer or recommend proper dietary and exercise support.

Following the above advice will help minimise the risks of taking diet pills, but do check out the alternatives.

Prescription Diet Pills – things to consider

Customers can buy them online with an online prescription, which is legal in some countries, but make sure you provide full and correct information to the prescribing Doctor.

For example, in the US, online consultations and prescribing for various obesity and other conditions is okay in some States. Provided you complete an online medical questionnaire, a licensed physician will review your information and prescribe the appropriate diet pills. No physical examination is made and the prescription diet pills are sent by an overnight Fed ex courier.

There are essentially 8 different prescription diet pills available, with the most commonly used prescription diet pills being the Phentermines. These are sold as Phentermine, Adipex and Ionamin. Other prescription diet pills include Xenical, Meridia, Bontril, Tenuate and Didrex. Generally the phentermines are the cheapest. If you are going to use them, you must follow the instructions carefully.

What about the UK?

There is only one type available on prescription in the UK  – Xenical (Orlistat). By contrast, Reductil (Sibutramine) used to be available but has now been withdrawn. However, Orlistat is also now available over the counter in the form of Alli Weight Loss Pills. Importantly, these two diet pills work in completely different ways.

Xenical blocks the action of lipase, the enzyme that digests fat in your intestine and stops around 30 percent of the fat you’ve eaten from being absorbed.

And as a result, your body loses around a third of the calories provided by this fat so you start to lose weight!

In contrast, Reductil enhances your satiety by indirectly boosting levels of serotonin, a chemical that helps you feel full. This means you feel more satisfied with less food and so eat smaller amounts and lose weight.

If you are going to order prescription diet pills online

Look for a site that:-

  • Explains the side effects of the medication.
  • Explains the costs including that of a medical consultation.
  • Offers consultations with licensed physicians.
  • Uses licensed Pharmacies to fill your order
  • Is a secure transaction site and protects your personal details.
  • Offers Next Business Day Delivery.
  • Offers online order tracking.

Before using any diet pills we recommend that, you should do the research and find out exactly what is involved. You should also consider consulting your own  doctor who is capable of assessing you on a personal basis.

Non prescription pills – things to consider

Risks of Taking Over-the-Counter Pills

Depending on which you choose, you could be unlucky and pick one of several over-the-counter pills or diet supplements that cause health risks. For example, you shouldn’t use weight loss pills that contain Ephedra because of a possibility of stroke, increased heart rate and blood pressure, seizures or heart attack.

So once again, you should consult a doctor before taking such diet pills, and always check the ingredients and side effects.

What’s more, you should only ever use pills that have an approval from a competent authority.

If you have medical conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, you may find that certain over-the-counter slimming pills may not be suitable for you. And yet it may not be obvious. If you take other medications, they may cause negative interactions too. For example, if you take a pill that includes a thyroid-stimulating ingredient, it could interfere with your prescribed medication for an under-active thyroid. And the packaging might not make this clear.
